This is what it's like to build an artcar on the road. The finishing touches were in a state park in Az. Note the ramshackle appearance of the campsite. The air temperature was perfect for my glue, at least.

Yet another cityscape, on top of a people mover for a giant real estate project  (Santana Row) in San Jose, California. I had to save this from the humongous fire that broke out next door, on the other side of the building where this was under construction. It was the biggest fire in San Jose history, a monster that created it's own weather zone and started fires two miles away. I used a 5 gallon bucket and a 3 in pipe to put out lots of mini fires, including one in the dumpster 20 yards away. Four guys used up their fire extinguishers on that and still didn't put it out. Water, and lots of it, did the trick.
My project was immersed in old newspapers that I had used to mask off areas to paint, so I doused the whole thing and then went on to battle the other mini blazes. Got hit on top of my head by an ember, and a crater got burned into the hood of the moon car by another ember --- made a nice crater shape.

The areas painted white are where the wind and sun damage were the worst. The theme would have been interesting entirely in white, but the colors really made it much better. There was no way to paint the buildings individually; they were adjacent and the paint would have slopped over. A few weeks after this photo I stripped off most of the buildings and stored them for future art pieces; and the vehicle went to the junkyard. Alas, but it was fun while it lasted (about 4 years).
I am almost to the limit where I will redesign and repost this blog, and include more stories.

Dont think I posted this one yet, but I haven't waded back through all of them to be sure (btw, just a reminder, all photos in this blog copyright by me, Gary Siebel). On the right side in the distance is the Transanerica bldg in Sna Francisco.
The view of the top of the Cityvan is from the drivers side looking back.
